Happy Father's Day!!!!

Its about 3am and the girls have been fed and are back to sleep :) so now its time for reflections about some of what I have learned (so far) about being a new dad.

From our home office in San Antonio, Texas...

10. Sleep is a luxury when you are a parent of a newborn
9. Girls can pee like a water fountain, we always see boys shooting pee in the Americas Funniest Videos, but girls can do it too.
8. Number 9 goes for poop too....
7. A trip to the store alone is like a mini-vacation
6. When people ask if they can help say YES!!!! :) (Thanks to everyone who has been helping out, you know who you are)
5. Babies do not let you watch movies in one sitting, it may take three or four
4. Sounds that are rude for adults (burps, farts, etc) are time for celebration for babies (ie. Great Burp!!!!!, Yeah for poop!!!!)
3. The camera should never be more than arms distance away, preferably in your pocket or within reach (See Flickr for details :))
2. Household chores can wait, time with the babies is much much more important
1. You NEVER stop worrying

Ok veteran dads, in the comments let me know what you have learned.

Brian you nailed those pretty good. All I can add is that each six months is going to be better than the last six months as The Twins progress in life!

Brian,
It's June 25th...can you even begin to imagine what your life was like a month ago? :-D

Seriously, this blog is a great way to document the things that are going on in your life and in the lives of the family.

In addition to the photos, this, or a daily journal would be one thing that I would STRONGLY recommend.

There will be days when you are overwhelmed...or nearly so...and reading back over the things that were going on a month ago can very often provide just the extra encouragement you need...to realize that you've made it this far, through this much, and whatever you worried about yesterday or last month or last year IS ALREADY BEING OR HAS ALREADY BEEN TAKEN CARE OF!

I think that's how God intended it. He put these two beautiful little girls in your life to challenge you in ways you could never imagine and each day, you find that you're doing things and growing in ways that you can't begin to describe.

Write about it, laugh about it, cry about it, but celebrate it!

As you said, the housework can wait. In 20 years, I seriously doubt that either one of them will look back on their life thinking, "Gee, I REALLY wish you guys had kept a cleaner house!"

Hope it was a great father's day for ya! I think I got the same Simpsons Card from Lee!

Best to you all,
Doug
